WHO SETS THE STANDARD?

In the IAM, YOU do.

Delta has put out wage graphs showing that the IAM and other unions set the standard for the industry. Southwest, American, United, Continental and US Airways are all heavily unionized carriers. Delta has said it intends to pay its employees less than workers at those carriers earn.

Delta has shown you what wages THEY think you should earn - somewhere in the middle of the industry. But the Machinists Union knows that YOUR sacrifice will help create the largest airline, and somewhere in the middle is just not good enough.

Where do YOU think you should be?

When the IAM negotiates contracts we survey the membership and solicit contract proposals to determine our members goals so we can secure the wages, benefits and working conditions that YOU want.

DON'T SETTLE FOR THE MIDDLE - REACH FOR THE TOP.

In reading this blog you mention that Delta has stated that we will be paid less then the other carriers. That is just not true, Delta has said to all of us that the goal is to get us to "Industry Standard" not less then. We all went through tough times with the bankruptcy and the economic troubles we have now, but Delta is in the position to maintain and continue to exsist through it all. We all have had to sacrifice, but all of us at Delta work together not against each other.

Well it is true.We got the information from the Deltanet.
According to delta airlines industry standard is the pay at continental airlines $3540.00 a month. Why is it that southwest, american and united all union carries have better pay and benefits than delta. You should go to iam143.org or iamll2763.org and read our contract with Northwest airlines. We even after bankruptcy get better benefits than you guys at delta cause we have a written and signed contract.

Now you pay, hours work and benefits can be change at anytime and there's if nothing you can do cause you don't have a bidding contract.

And we do work with the company as a whole. Back in 1993 we took wage concessions, work rule changes to save Northwest from bankruptcy. And i know we are under some difficult times with the economy the way that it is but we are just asking for the same contract that YES RICHARD ANDERSON,ED BASTIAN AND THE REST OF THE EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT TEAM HAS. To all delta employees be open minded read our contract and compared it to what you have and make a decision by what you read and NOT by what delta is feeding you.

Example:
1. 8 hours of sick time per month/ 12 days a year with no caps.
2nd. 8 hours of oji(on the job injury) per month/12 days a year with no caps.
3rd. 6 weeks of max vacation with 29year of service.
4th. JOB PROTECTION with bumping rights if we are lay-off. Meaning that if i get lay-off from my station i can bump to any city that my seniority can hold.
5th. Medical insurance i can count on and that won;t bankrupt me.

And last we all should sacrifice but why is it that our senior management team keeps getting rich at our expense?

From the Delta News Network:

"The company is committed to continuing our progression toward industry-standard pay for all workgroups by the end of 2010."

This is legal-speak. This does not mean that you will be "AT" industry standard by 2010! This only means that by 2010 you will continue to be on your way "TO" industry standard!

This in and if itself is its own disclaimer and we need the IAM to rid iyself of these hollow promises!

Vote YES to the IAM!
